Duke Energy Ohio's price to compare for natural gas is its standard service offer (SSO): $1.0147 per Ccf for October 1 – November 1, 2026, per the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) chart. The SSO is the default rate PUCO says Duke Energy Ohio's gas customers pay when they do not shop. For gas, the number to hold an offer against is the SSO, and Ohio's gas billing rule requires a price-to-compare statement on residential bills (Ohio Administrative Code 4901:1-13-11).

PUCO says the SSO is a monthly variable rate: the NYMEX month-end settlement price, which is the New York Mercantile Exchange price for natural gas, plus a retail price adjustment set at auction and held for twelve months. PUCO's chart adds a quarterly reconciliation for Duke.
Before April 1, 2026, Duke Energy Ohio's default gas rate was the Gas Cost Recovery (GCR) rate, which recovers what the utility pays to buy and deliver gas. Since then it has been the SSO.

When does the Duke Energy Ohio gas rate reset next?
The current period runs October 1 – November 1, 2026, so the next one starts November 2, 2026. PUCO says the SSO changes monthly, so expect a new number then and check PUCO's chart for it.
Where do you find the SSO on your Duke Energy Ohio bill?
Ohio's gas billing rule requires every bill to show the gas rate in dollars and cents per Mcf or Ccf, and residential bills to carry a price-to-compare statement that points shoppers to the default rate (Ohio Administrative Code 4901:1-13-11).
PUCO's gas bill guide says customers on Duke's SSO keep buying their gas from Duke. Compare your bill with PUCO's chart for Duke Energy Ohio gas.
If a supplier or a community aggregation program serves you, the SSO is not your rate. It still benchmarks a renewal offer.
How do you test an offer against the Duke Energy Ohio SSO?
A fixed offer below the SSO may cost less. It may also cost more, because of a monthly fee, an early termination fee (ETF), the charge for leaving a contract early, or a variable rate. Chart rates leave out delivery charges, so add delivery on each side. For a supplier's offer, also add county sales tax, which PUCO's gas bill guide says a supplier's rate does not include.
Take a household that uses 100 Ccf of gas in a month. This is an example, not your usage. At $1.0147 per Ccf, the gas itself costs $101.47 for that month, before delivery.
Now picture a fixed offer, made up for this example, priced at $0.9847 per Ccf. The same usage costs $98.47 before any fee. Add any other fee in your offer terms, including a broker's service fee, then compare the totals.
| Monthly gas use | At the SSO | At the example offer |
|---|---|---|
| 50 Ccf | $50.74 | $49.24 |
| 100 Ccf | $101.47 | $98.47 |
| 150 Ccf | $152.20 | $147.71 |
Staying on the SSO can be the right call when:
- every fixed offer sits above most recent months in the history table;
- a monthly fee or an early termination fee erases the gap at your usage; or
- you may move before the term ends.
PUCO says there is no deadline to shop, and switching does not ensure a lower bill (PUCO's choice FAQs). After you pick a supplier, Duke Energy Ohio mails you a confirmation notice. You have seven business days from its postmark date to rescind, by calling or writing to the utility (Ohio Administrative Code 4901:1-29-10). Our energy choice Ohio guide covers how switching works.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Duke Energy Ohio gas SSO cover?
It covers the gas itself, priced per Ccf: $1.0147 per Ccf for October 1 – November 1, 2026, per PUCO's chart. It leaves out delivery charges, and a supplier's offer also leaves out county sales tax. Duke Energy Ohio bills delivery whichever supplier you use, so your total cost per Ccf is higher than the SSO.
How often does the Duke Energy Ohio gas SSO change?
PUCO says the SSO changes monthly, because it follows the New York Mercantile Exchange month-end gas price. The current period runs October 1 – November 1, 2026, so the next one starts November 2, 2026. A fixed offer holds its price for its term, so check several months of the chart before you compare.
Is the Duke Energy Ohio gas SSO higher or lower than a year ago?
Today's Duke Energy Ohio SSO is up 120.6% from $0.460 per Ccf (October 1 – November 2, 2025), the period covering most of the same dates a year earlier. That earlier figure was Duke's Gas Cost Recovery rate. Duke moved to the SSO on April 1, 2026, so the change spans both.
Is the Duke Energy Ohio gas SSO the same as an electric price to compare?
Not exactly. For gas, the number to hold an offer against is the SSO. Ohio's gas billing rule, Ohio Administrative Code 4901:1-13-11, requires a price-to-compare statement on residential gas bills. Gas rates are priced per Ccf, not per kilowatt-hour, so never set a gas rate beside an electric one.
Can I cancel a gas supplier switch with Duke Energy Ohio?
Yes, for a short time. Duke Energy Ohio mails you a confirmation notice after a supplier enrolls you. You have seven business days from its postmark date to rescind, by calling the utility or writing to it, under Ohio Administrative Code 4901:1-29-10. Read your offer terms for other cancellation rights.
