What does a rate per Mcf mean for Enbridge Gas Ohio?

A Ccf is one hundred cubic feet of natural gas, and an Mcf is one thousand (Ohio Administrative Code 4901:1-29-01). PUCO's chart prints Enbridge Gas Ohio's rate per Mcf. Enbridge says gas use on its bill is measured in Mcf, the same unit as the chart rate.

Check which unit your bill uses before you multiply, and never set a gas rate beside an electric price to compare.

When does the Enbridge Gas Ohio rate reset next?

PUCO says the SCO changes monthly, and its chart states the dates the current rate covers. Check the chart for the next change. We cannot give a reset date until a new period appears on it.

Where do you find the SCO on your Enbridge Gas Ohio bill?

Ohio's gas billing rule requires every bill to show the gas rate in dollars and cents per Mcf or Ccf, and residential bills to carry a price-to-compare statement that points shoppers to the default rate (Ohio Administrative Code 4901:1-13-11).

PUCO says the SCO rate is on your natural gas bill. Enbridge says your bill shows the name of your gas supplier and, below it, the rate plan "Standard Choice Offer (SCO)". Its own page calls the SCO the default for customers with no past-due balances outside a payment plan.

PUCO's chart says this rate applies to eligible residential customers and to small non-residential customers, as Enbridge determines.

If a supplier or a community aggregation program serves you, the SCO is not your rate. It still benchmarks a renewal offer.

How do you test an offer against the Enbridge Gas Ohio SCO?

A fixed offer below the SCO may cost less. It may also cost more, because of a monthly fee, an early termination fee (ETF), the charge for leaving a contract early, or a variable rate. Chart rates leave out delivery charges. Gas bought from a supplier or under the SCO is subject to sales tax, and county sales tax is not in a supplier's rate (PUCO's gas bill guide), so add delivery and tax on each side.

Multiply your monthly gas use by the SCO as the chart prints it. Do the same with the offer's rate, using the same usage. Add any other fee in your offer terms, including a broker's service fee, then compare the totals.

The SCO changes every month, while a fixed offer holds its price for its term. Test an offer against several months in the history table, not one.

Staying on the SCO can be the right call when:

  • every fixed offer sits above most recent months in the history table;
  • a monthly fee or an early termination fee erases the gap at your usage; or
  • you may move before the term ends.

PUCO says there is no deadline to shop, and switching does not ensure a lower bill (PUCO's choice FAQs). After you pick a supplier, Enbridge Gas Ohio mails you a confirmation notice. You have seven business days from its postmark date to rescind, by calling or writing to the utility (Ohio Administrative Code 4901:1-29-10). Our energy choice Ohio guide covers how switching works.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Enbridge Gas Ohio SCO cover?

It covers the gas itself, priced per Mcf. PUCO's chart states the current figure and its dates. It leaves out delivery charges and sales tax. Enbridge Gas Ohio bills delivery whichever supplier you use, so your total cost per Mcf is higher than the SCO.

How often does the Enbridge Gas Ohio SCO change?

PUCO says the SCO changes monthly, because it follows the New York Mercantile Exchange month-end gas price. PUCO's chart states the dates each figure covers. A fixed offer holds its price for its term, so check several months of the chart before you compare.

Is the Enbridge Gas Ohio SCO higher or lower than a year ago?

The last rate we recorded for Enbridge Gas Ohio was $3.607 per Mcf, for September 10 – October 8, 2026. We have no rate on file for today yet, so we cannot set today's SCO beside a year ago. Check PUCO's chart for the current rate and its dates.

Is the Enbridge Gas Ohio SCO the same as an electric price to compare?

Not exactly. For gas, the number to hold an offer against is the SCO. Ohio's gas billing rule, Ohio Administrative Code 4901:1-13-11, requires a price-to-compare statement on residential gas bills. Gas rates are priced per Mcf, not per kilowatt-hour, so never set a gas rate beside an electric one.

Can I cancel a gas supplier switch with Enbridge Gas Ohio?

Yes, for a short time. Enbridge Gas Ohio mails you a confirmation notice after a supplier enrolls you. You have seven business days from its postmark date to rescind, by calling the utility or writing to it, under Ohio Administrative Code 4901:1-29-10. Read your offer terms for other cancellation rights.
