Apples to Apples CenterPoint Ohio: How to Read PUCO's Chart
PUCO (the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio) runs the Apples to Apples CenterPoint Ohio chart, with the Standard Choice Offer (SCO) in a box at the top and supplier offers below, priced per Ccf, one hundred cubic feet of gas. The box builds its rate in Mcf, one thousand cubic feet, and converts it to Ccf for billing. This page shows how to read the box, the unit, the filters and the notes.
Updated
In short
- CenterPoint's box states the SCO as a month-end gas price plus an adjustment, built in Mcf and converted to Ccf for billing.
- The chart prints rates per Ccf, so compare each offer with the default in that unit.
- CenterPoint says its SCO price excludes taxes, and PUCO says county sales tax is not in a supplier's rate.
- CenterPoint posts its own table of SCO prices by month, which you can set beside PUCO's chart.
How do you read the Apples to Apples chart for CenterPoint Ohio?
Open PUCO's natural gas Apples to Apples page and look for "CenterPoint Energy Ohio (Vectren)" under Residential. The chart's heading adds "formerly known as Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio". Ohio Energy Savings is not PUCO. Small businesses pick the rate code on their bill, and CenterPoint's are Rate 320, 321 and 325.

The chart has a default box, a filter panel and the offers. CenterPoint's box is the one whose formula turns the market price into a price per Mcf with a stated Btu factor. Our Apples to Apples guide defines the list's columns.
How does CenterPoint's box turn an Mcf price into a Ccf rate?
PUCO's chart says in its box that the Standard Choice Offer (SCO) starts from the NYMEX month-end settlement price of natural gas, converted to a price per Mcf with a standard Btu factor. It adds a retail price adjustment, which the box states per Mcf for a stated twelve-month window. The result is then "converted to a rate per Ccf for billing purposes".
That is why the chart prints the rate per Ccf even though the formula runs in Mcf. Under the formula, the box names the suppliers serving customers who have not chosen one. We do not repeat those names. CenterPoint says it does not endorse any supplier.
Our CenterPoint SCO rate page covers the number and its reset, and natural gas rates defines the terms.
What does a fee-charging offer cost against CenterPoint's SCO?
In the example below it costs more than the SCO in a light month and less in a heavy one, because the fee stays the same while the rate gap grows with use. Offers on CenterPoint's chart are priced per Ccf, like the default, so compare them directly. A Ccf is one hundred cubic feet of natural gas, and an Mcf is one thousand (Ohio Administrative Code 4901:1-29-01).
A worked example in CenterPoint's own unit shows how a monthly fee changes the picture. These inputs are made up. They are not Ohio averages and not your usage.
The SCO used is $0.486 per Ccf, the rate for October 1 – October 31, 2026.
Picture a fixed offer $0.050 per Ccf lower, at $0.436 per Ccf, with a monthly fee of $3.00. Use a light month of 30 Ccf (3 Mcf) and a heavy month of 90 Ccf (9 Mcf). The default charge below is the gas itself, before delivery and tax.
| Month | Usage | Default at the SCO | Made-up offer with fee | Offer against default |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Light month | 30 Ccf | $14.58 | $16.08 | $1.50 more |
| Heavy month | 90 Ccf | $43.74 | $42.24 | $1.50 less |
In the light month the offer costs $1.50 more. In the heavy month it costs $1.50 less. The offer beats the default only above about 60 Ccf in a month, and the chart's rate column never shows that.
Where do the links under CenterPoint's box lead?
The filters work as our Apples to Apples guide describes. The price field on PUCO's CenterPoint chart is in dollars per Ccf, the unit of the box.
Four links sit under the box: PUCO's sign-up for CenterPoint rate change alerts, a "CenterPoint Energy Rate Sheet" link, PUCO's chart archive and its SCO historical chart. The rate sheet link points to a PDF on CenterPoint's own website that returned a page-not-found error when we checked on October 1, 2026.
CenterPoint posts its own table of historical and current SCO rates on its choice page. It lists one price for each month, rounded to the cent, with no unit in the rows. PUCO's historical chart prints the rate per Ccf, to four decimals in its 2026 table and to the cent in earlier years.
What do CenterPoint's historical chart and archive show?
The CenterPoint SCO historical chart lists the rate for each period. We hold 58 dated CenterPoint periods, starting January 2022. PUCO names a whole calendar month for each one, unlike the periods at Columbia and Enbridge.
The archive is PUCO's Apples to Apples History Browser, which shows past offers by date, territory and category. PUCO warns that those suppliers may no longer offer them and need not honor them.
For the territory picture, see CenterPoint Ohio gas rates. Our own series is on CenterPoint gas rate history.
Does CenterPoint's chart rate include tax?
No. CenterPoint says the SCO price excludes taxes, and PUCO's gas bill guide says gas bought as part of an SCO program, or from a supplier, is subject to Ohio sales or use tax. County rates vary, so the county tax is not in a supplier's rate.
The chart is also a snapshot of suppliers actively enrolling, as the Apples to Apples guide above explains.
What should you check before you pick a CenterPoint offer?
- Rate type and introductory price. Ask what a variable rate follows and what replaces an introduction.
- Term and early termination fee (ETF). An ETF is the charge for leaving a contract early.
- Monthly fee. A flat fee matters most when you use little gas.
Staying on the SCO can be the better choice when every fixed offer sits above the recent months on the historical chart, when a monthly fee or an ETF erases the gap at your usage, or when you may move before the term ends (Energy Choice Ohio FAQs). CenterPoint describes the SCO as "a safety net to help ensure that natural gas suppliers are available".

Frequently asked questions
What does Vectren mean on CenterPoint's chart?
Vectren is CenterPoint Energy Ohio's former name. PUCO's chart heading says CenterPoint Energy Ohio, formerly known as Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio, and its utility picker shows CenterPoint Energy Ohio (Vectren). Pick that entry under Residential to reach the chart for your gas utility.
Where does CenterPoint publish its own SCO rate table?
On its choice page, under Historical and Current SCO Rates, CenterPoint posts a table with one price for each month, rounded to the cent and with no unit in its rows. PUCO's historical chart prints the rate per Ccf, to four decimals in its 2026 table and to the cent in earlier years. Use PUCO's chart for the unit.
Which rate code does a CenterPoint gas small business pick on PUCO's chart?
PUCO's natural gas Apples to Apples page lists Rate 320, Rate 321 and Rate 325 for CenterPoint Energy Ohio (Vectren) under Small Commercial. PUCO says the tariff or rate code your business falls under is on your billing statement, and to contact your utility if you cannot find it. Take the code from your own bill.
What can I use if CenterPoint's rate sheet link on PUCO's chart will not open?
When we checked on October 1, 2026, the "CenterPoint Energy Rate Sheet" link under the box returned a page-not-found error. CenterPoint posts its own table of historical and current SCO rates on its choice page, and PUCO's historical chart lists the rate for each period. Use those two to confirm a figure.
