Does Columbus have an electric aggregation program?

Aggregation means a city, township or county buys electricity for its residents as a group. Under Ohio Revised Code 4928.20, a community may enroll homes automatically only after its voters approve it, and each household gets a notice and a chance to opt out.

Columbus's program is Clean Energy Columbus. Our registry, researched September 9, 2026 at high confidence, lists AEP Energy as the supplier at a fixed rate of 10.01¢ per kWh.

The registry records the program's contract term as June 2021 to May 2034. A program can reset its rate inside that term, so your latest notice shows how long the rate above lasts. The registry's exit-fee note reads “No fees or penalties to opt out at any time (Clean Energy Columbus program page)”.

Our registry records no county-wide program for Franklin County.

To keep a supplier you chose, PUCO says to return the opt-out notice (what is aggregation). Ask the program's supplier and your own supplier how your account will be handled before you sign or return anything. See also the Columbus program page, aggregation in Ohio and the aggregation lookup.

PUCO's county map shows Columbia as the only large gas utility in Franklin County, with smaller gas operators also labeled there. No source we read says whether any of them serves a Columbus address, or where the lines fall inside the city. None of these sources maps gas service to streets or ZIP codes.

We read these sources on October 1, 2026. Energy Choice Ohio says to find your gas provider on your billing statement (gas start page).

Columbia Gas of Ohio's default gas rate is called the Standard Choice Offer (SCO). Open PUCO's chart through our Columbia Gas of Ohio Apples to Apples page, see the Columbia Gas of Ohio price to compare, or read natural gas rates in Ohio.

Default rate, city program or supplier: which applies to you in Columbus?

In Columbus your electric supply comes from one of three places. They are AEP Ohio's default rate, the Clean Energy Columbus program if it enrolled you, or an offer from a supplier you pick. PUCO says people on PIPP Plus or under their own supplier contract are not eligible for aggregation (what is aggregation).

Staying on the default can make sense when every fixed offer is above the price to compare, or when a monthly fee or an early termination fee (ETF), the charge for leaving a contract early, would erase the gap. See when staying put is the better choice.
