Apples to Apples Duke Energy Ohio: How to Read PUCO's Chart
PUCO's Apples to Apples Duke Energy Ohio chart opens with a box that states Duke's price to compare, 10.49¢ per kWh for October 1 – October 31, 2026, and then lists supplier offers. Duke's own page says your personal figure depends on how much power you use, and the price to compare printed on your bill is the one to test against. This guide covers that gap, how promotions show up in the table, and how to weigh an incentive against the rate.
Updated
In short
- The box gives Duke's price to compare for supply only, with its dates, and it had no electric-heating footnote when we read it.
- The price to compare printed on your latest Duke bill decides the test. Duke's table and calculator are only a cross-check.
- A Yes in the promotional offers column points to a supplier-written note, and the incentive is not part of the rate.
- Weigh a promotion by setting it against the rate gap over the whole term.
What does the box on the Duke Energy Ohio chart state?
The box gives Duke's residential price to compare "for the generation supply portion of your bill" and the dates it covers. When we read it, that was 10.49¢ per kWh for October 1 – October 31, 2026.

The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) runs the chart on Energy Choice Ohio. Ohio Energy Savings is not PUCO.
Under the figure, the box says the offer prices below reflect the generation portion of your bill, and that distribution and transmission rates come through your local utility. When we read it on October 1, 2026, the Duke box had no electric-heating footnote. The chart prints the figure as $0.1049 per kWh.
The figure is the per-kWh benchmark for Duke Energy Ohio's standard service offer (SSO), the default supply you get if you never pick a supplier. Our Duke Energy Ohio rates guide covers the territory and the riders behind it.
Below the box, one link signs you up for PUCO's Duke electric rate change alerts, and another opens PUCO's Duke price-to-compare history.
What does the Duke Energy Ohio box not tell you about your own figure?
The box prints one figure and the dates it covers, with no usage band and, when we read it on October 1, 2026, no heating note. Duke's own price-to-compare page says its figure "is based on the energy usage that you provided." PUCO's box prints one number for everyone.
We read an archived copy of Duke's page because the live page blocked our request, so check Duke's live page for its current rules. Go by the dates the chart prints, and test a long term against more than one figure.

- How the default rate changes
- Duke Energy Ohio adjusts its default rate on a rolling basis, often monthly, as riders update. PUCO's chart states the period the current rate covers.
- PUCO chart number
- 4
Duke's page also offers a table of figures by annual usage and a calculator. Our Duke Energy Ohio rates guide covers both.
Ohio's electric billing rule lists the price-to-compare notice among the items a residential utility bill must carry (OAC 4901:1-10-22(B)(24)). So the figure printed on your latest Duke bill decides the test, and Duke's table and calculator are only a cross-check. Match the bill's dates to the chart's before you subtract. Our Duke Energy Ohio price to compare page covers the figure on its own.
How should you read a promotion in the Duke Energy Ohio Apples to Apples table?
The promotional offers column prints Yes or No. When it says Yes, a details link opens a note the supplier wrote about the incentive. PUCO's chart displays the note but does not write it.
Two rows can print the same rate and still differ in what they offer. One may carry a promotion and the other none, so read the promotional offers column on every row you keep.
Check the term as well. A promotion that needs a long term may not suit you if you might move. Set the incentive beside the early termination fee on the same row, because a fee larger than the incentive means leaving early costs more than you gained.
A promotion sits outside the rate column. A gift or credit does not change the printed price, and it may come with conditions. Ask whether it is paid once, when it is paid, and what happens to it if you leave early.
Rows load in random order, and only the supplier and $/kWh headers sort. Each row is a CRES provider, a supplier PUCO has certified to sell electricity. You can tick rows in the first column and use Click to Compare to see a short list together.
The filter panel takes ranges for the early termination fee and the monthly fee. Use them to keep offers whose fees you can accept, then read each promotion note on the rows that remain.
How would a promotion read against the Duke Energy Ohio box?
Imagine a made-up offer that prints $0.1099 per kWh against a box of $0.1049 per kWh. It is fixed for 12 months. Its promotional offers cell says Yes, and the details link opens a note promising a one-time sign-up incentive of $25.00. The home uses 700 kWh a month, a made-up figure.
| Step | Result |
|---|---|
| Offer's price above the box, per kWh | $0.0050 per kWh |
| Extra supply cost per month at 700 kWh | $3.50 |
| Extra supply cost over 12 months | $42.00 |
| One-time incentive | $25.00 |
| Offer against the default over 12 months, if the box never changed | $17.00 more |
The extra rate cost passes the incentive in month 8. A promotion helps most when it is large next to the rate gap and paid early. Check the details note for when and how it is paid, and whether you must stay for a set time.
Staying on Duke's default is the better call when every fixed offer sits above the box by more than a promotion repays, when a monthly fee or an early termination fee erases the gap, or when you may move before the term ends.
Which Duke Energy Ohio pages round out the chart?

Frequently asked questions
Is there a way to list only the Duke Energy Ohio offers with a promotion?
Not with a filter. When we read the chart on October 1, 2026, the filter panel covered price, term length, early termination fee, monthly fee, renewable content, rate type and supplier, but not promotions. Narrow the list with those filters, then read the promotional offers column on each row that remains.
Does the Duke Energy Ohio chart show a separate figure for electric heating?
Not when we read the chart on October 1, 2026. The Duke box showed one figure with its dates and the generation-only note, and no heating footnote. The FirstEnergy boxes carry a heating footnote, and the AES Ohio box adds a second figure. Open the chart to see whether the box has changed.
Does a sign-up incentive on the Duke Energy Ohio chart change the rate?
No. The rate column prints the supplier's price per kWh, and a promotion sits in its own column with a details note the supplier wrote. Add the incentive to your own sums. Check when it is paid and what happens to it if you leave early.
How do I tell whether a promotion on the Duke chart is worth it?
Work out how far the offer's price sits from the default in dollars per kWh, multiply by your monthly usage and the term, then set the incentive against that total. If the extra rate cost passes the incentive within the term, the promotion does not pay for the higher rate.
