Electric aggregation. A community buys electricity supply for its residents as one group, and in an opt-out program households are enrolled unless they opt out.

Athens County shows up in our registry with eight rows, so a program is on record, but we have not verified any, and the table holds names and dates only.

The rows cover one city, six villages and the county's own row. No place here has its own page yet, because a page needs a verified row.

Each listing is one community's program or a county-wide program. We call a row verified when its registry confidence is medium or higher. A row below that shows only its name, its kind and the date we researched it.

Does Athens County run its own electric aggregation program?

A county-level row exists for Athens County in our registry, researched September 9, 2026. It is not yet verified, so we say nothing about who runs it or what it charges.

A board of county commissioners can aggregate only the unincorporated area of the county, says Ohio Revised Code 4928.20. It may act jointly with another city, village, township or county. The section does not authorize aggregating loads served by a municipal electric utility or in a nonprofit electric supplier's territory.

Which price to compare applies in Athens County?

Price to compare. The utility's default supply rate, the one you pay if you have not chosen a supplier or joined a program.

The registry ties every Athens County row to AEP Ohio.

AEP Ohio's price to compare is 10.19¢ per kWh for October 1 – December 31, 2026, according to PUCO's chart. The next period starts January 1, 2027.

Our AEP Ohio price to compare page explains the number, and PUCO's chart lists offers for AEP Ohio. Territory lines can cut across a county, so check the utility on your bill.

Our ZIP list shows nineteen ZIP codes in Athens County. Postal names such as Carbondale, Coolville, Glouster, Guysville, Hockingport and seven more match no row in this county's file, but a postal name is not a city limit, and a missing row does not mean there is no program.

How does your own supplier fit with an Athens County program?

PUCO tells customers (PUCO) that choosing a new supplier without opting out leaves you in the aggregation program, and that opting out is how you keep a supplier you chose. Ask the program and the supplier how your account will be handled before you sign or return anything in Athens County. Look for an early termination fee (ETF), which is what a contract can charge if you end it early.

Staying in the program, or on the utility's default, can be the better choice when every fixed offer on PUCO's chart is above the rate you pay now for the same dates. It can also be better when a supplier's monthly fee or ETF would erase the gap.

PUCO also keeps an electric Do Not Aggregate list for people who want out of future opt-out programs. PUCO says it does not take you out of a program that has already enrolled you.

How do you confirm a program for your Athens County address?

Our Ohio electric aggregation guide covers notices and deadlines, and Ohio energy choice covers who can shop. The aggregation lookup matches a ZIP code or town to the registry.

Frequently asked questions

How many electric aggregation listings does Athens County have on file?

Our registry shows eight listings for Athens County, researched September 9, 2026. None has been verified yet, so each row shows a name and a date only. Our ZIP list has nineteen ZIP codes in the county. A list on file is not proof of every program, because research can lag behind new votes.

Does an Athens County program cover homes inside a city or village?

No. Under Ohio Revised Code 4928.20, a county acting alone aggregates only the unincorporated area. Our Athens County file covers one city, six villages and the county's own row, and our ZIP list has nineteen ZIP codes there. A county row is on file, so check whether your address is unincorporated.

Can I see the Athens County aggregation rate on this page?

Not for now. Athens County has no verified row, so no rate appears here. A program's rate is on the notice you get in the mail, and you can set it beside the price to compare for AEP Ohio on PUCO's chart before you decide whether to stay.

Who can tell me about aggregation for my Athens County address?

Start with your opt-out notice, then ask your city hall or village office and the county commissioners. Your bill names your utility, which our registry gives as AEP Ohio. Our aggregation lookup covers the nineteen ZIP codes in our list for the county, though it cannot see your exact address.
